Am I trying too hard to make my writing fluent and interesting? Is that why it's getting boring and choppy?

Seemed fine to me has your mom read anything else of your novel? Maybe that's why she thought it was long winded. Authors have to have at least 250 per page so really explaining things is a necessity in writing.
