Role of parents in chromosomal disorder?

I know that the chromosomal disorder is resulted in nondisjunction through the phases of meiosis, but what I would like to know is that what role did the parents play in this disorder? Did the parents have a recessive trait that caused the improper meiosis? Please try to give me a thorough answer because I'm trying to learn it for a test.
