Choking on water or other thin liquids?

You can NOT choke to death drinking any liquid. Most people have and do experience what you describe. The solution is to drink slowly or sip, instead of gulping. When you gulp you bring in air, which can cause liquid to come back up. Choking and coughing can also bring up fluids. You choke and cough because excess moisture or a little liquid gets in the lungs, and your lungs reject fluids. It's a natural reflex designed to keep your lungs clear. You are fine ! Take care !
