Is badly freezer burned meat on bone OK?

The other week I tossed out a turkey neck I found lurking in the freezer because after I thawed it, it was gray and smelled cooked (weird I know). I didn't know if the bone would still have "raw" integrity so chose not to risk it. I am guessing it would have probably been ok?
