Why are Americans such hypocrites when it comes to animal abuse?

Well I am an American and personally what goes on on Factory Farms horrifies me. So I do what I can to help, for example I am a vegan which means I don't eat any animal products. I think it's horrible what's going on in Iraq too but sadly there's nothing I can do about that.
